How Advancement Stole our Christmas

Written by: Christian Jyreh Mendoza

It was night.

It was day.

The vibrance of lights felt gray

With the bass of the beat at day

Like the spirit of the soul

Christmas caught a faded goal.

Everything’s been good.

You don’t need to worry.

No, you should never be sorry.

The world is better, right?

Advancing; ahead, it’s forging

Let’s enjoy the night of the light.

No joy.

No sorrow.

No vision of what will happen tomorrow.

No lights.

No fireflies.

Who can see the true longing in your eyes?

Eyes are empty.

Smiling at gleaming screens.

Have we turned to slaves of machines?

It’s Christmas.

The season of giving.

And living and reliving.

Supposedly.

Technology.

Oh, how life restarts

And how things got easier

‘Cept for the connection of our hearts

Like magnets, we try

Unaware of likeness of poles

May we enjoy the night facing each other?

In the night.

In the light.

A humdrum so gray

Indistinct streets

A different kind of surreal

Christmas seems like another day

To twinkle to conceal
