The UST Industrial Engineering Circle (UST-IEC) kicked off a two-day webinar entitled "GOING IELC: The Industrial Engineering Leadership Congress 2021" with the theme "Instilling and Enhancing Leadership amidst Crisis" via Discord, Zoom, and Facebook Live on November 26-27, 2021.
The event was held in partnership with Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers Lyceum of the Philippines University - Cavite Student Chapter (PIIE LPUC SC), Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers Holy Angel University Student Chapter (PIIE HAUSC), Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers Cavite State University Student Chapter (PIIE CvSUSC), and Mapúa School of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IE-EMG) Student Council to highlight the significance of leadership skills and character development in becoming industry-ready.
Zarina Posecion, President of UST-IEC, graced the first day of the event entitled "IEMAZING" with her opening remarks, followed by the explanation of the game mechanics by Gabriel Gonzales, the Executive Coordinator for External Affairs of UST-IEC.
The participants enjoyed eight games: Spot the Difference, Guess the Song (Emoji Edition), Read My Lips, Basic Calculus (Solving), Physics A (Solving), 4Pics 1 Word, Kahoot, and Tetri.io. The first day concluded with the announcement of winners.
Engr. Yoshiki Kurata, adviser of UST-IEC, commenced the second day of the event with his opening spiel conveying his gratitude to the partner organizations and his sentiments on leadership.
Jefson Feliz, a fourth-year clinical intern at UST, tackled the factors affecting the development of one's leadership skills and the vitality of motivation and selflessness in directing people.
UST Industrial Engineering alumnus, Juan Talamayan, reminisced his struggles as a college student and how he used this as a motivation to succeed in life. He also highlighted the increasing demand for industrial engineers as technology continues to develop nowadays.
UST Faculty of Medicine alumnus and former UST Central Student Council president, Robert Gonzales, Md, RPh, focused on explaining the importance of maintaining a balance between a student leader's organization and academic life through sharing his journey as a student leader.
A short question and answer session was held after each talk, followed by a game and an intermission number.
The attendees participated in three games: Shopping Time, Bomb Party, and raffle draw. Illumina, UST Prime, and Hana Austria decked the event with their performances.
Professor Joehanna K Ngo, the Industrial Engineering Department Chair Associate communicated her appreciation to the resource speakers and student leaders who collaborated to produce the successful event in her closing remarks.
The program ended with the singing of the UST hymn led by the UST One Voice Engineering Chorale.
