UST EE hosts the 14th Regional Student Conference

The UST Electrical Engineering Department, in partnership with the IIEE – Council of Student Chapters (IIEE – CSC) and Electrical Engineering Circuit (EEC) hosted the 14th Regional Student Conference at the UST seminary gym last September 27-28, 2018. The event was attended by electrical engineering students from different schools in Metro Manila.


The first day of the event featured a series of technical seminars from industry experts. The first speaker, Engr. Joemark F. Yangag- Senior Project Engineer of Coulomb Energy Technick, Inc, gave a talk entitled “Automation: An Innovative Approach in the Field of Electrical Engineering.”


Engr. Efren D. Sarmienta discussed the importance of Electrical Engineering in the construction industry with his talk entitled “Value Electrical in Engineering Construction.”


Engr. Mark C. Manjares discussed the proper designing of grounding system. Manjares cited provisions in the Philippine Electrical Code and incorporated his own experiences in the field in discussing the topic.


Engr. Gerard Rizardo tackled the importance of communication in his talk entitled “Communication: Gateway for Understanding”. He said that communication is essential to deliver results and ensure safety especially for engineers.

Lastly, Engr. Virgilio Luzares talked about an upcoming trend in green engineering called net metering. Luzares emphasized the importance of net metering especially with the rise of renewable energy sources

.

The second day of the event started with the opening remarks of the UST EE department chair of and the first president of the IIEE – CSC, Engr. Raymond Marquez. Marquez wished the quizzers good luck and challenged the students to bring pride to their respective schools.


The main event of the 14th RSCON was the 32nd Regional quiz show and 18th Regional Math Wizard wherein quizzers from Metro Manila schools battled their wits out in Electrical engineering and mathematics subjects to gain a spot in the national quiz show. The Strength and Pride of the Electrical Engineering (SPEED), the official quiz team of the EE department, failed to secure a spot in the top 3 placing 5th in both competitions.


Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela dominated the Regional Math Wizard and Regional Quiz Show.


The two-day event concluded with the awarding of certificates to the board of judges and all the participants. Jason Patacsil
